Treacle in a Bar

Posted 1st December 2009 - travel companions - Dan & Lizz
Bar, Montenegro: Distance Travelled = 56,522 miles

Hello!
We're in a town called Bar, and of course with a name like that, you have to have fun! Bar is the main harbour city in Montenegro and one of the places that the Serbs go to to see the sea. You can see me on the balcony of the hotel (I'm sure I caught sight of a little crochet jumper disappearing down the corridor) and of course a picture in a bar in Bar! More from Montenegro soon.

Treacle in Sutomore

Posted 3rd December 2009 - travel companions - Dan & Lizz
Sutomore, Montenegro: Distance Travelled = 56,527 miles

Hello!
We took the bus out of bar for a trip to the seaside. I don't think I like these Balkern beaches very much. In Jamaica and Fiji the beaches were fantastic and soft and yellow and sandy. But here they are filled with pebbles that are very uncomfortable to lie on! I'm told that they are filled with people in the summer, but as it's December now they're a bit cold and empty. I lay along way from the waters edge to make sure that I didn't get covered in water again, but still, somehow I managed to get covered in pebbles. Sigh, it's not my day! I think it's time for another country....

Treacle in Serbia

Belgrade, Serbia: Distance Travelled = 56,718 miles

Hello!
I am now back on the train again heading east from Montenegro into Serbia. I do love trains, but they can be quite dangerous for a little bear like me! I woke up after a lovely refreshing nights sleep on the night train, but unfortunately I tripped and my scarf got stuck on the ladder, sigh. Luckily my friend Dan was there to rescue me, phew! We're nearly at Belgrade now, so a new update soon!

Treacle in Belgrade

Belgrade, Serbia: Distance Travelled = 56,726 miles

Hello!
I've now arrived in the capital of Serbia, Belgrade. We visited Kalemegdan, the historical fortress and park in central Belgrade, in front of the place where the two huge rivers, the Danube and the Sava merge. I found a funny pipe think and wondered what it was, so I climbed inside to find out. I suddenly realised that I should get out of there really, really quickly - it was a cannon!!!! Luckily it was an old one in the war museum, phew! I really do need to be careful when exploring! I tried to shoot a hole in the wall with the cannon, but I was too small to be able to move the level. Time to move on anyway! A new update soon!

Treacle in Macedonia

Posted 9th December 2009 - travel companions - Dan & Lizz
Skopje, Macedonia: Distance Travelled = 56,927 miles

Hello!
I hopped onto the night train and travelled south to the former Yugoslavian republic of Macedonia. It really is a very silly name! It's silly because the Greeks (back a long time ago) had a place called Macedonia and the people here in this area didn't like them ... so they decided to call themselves Macedonia too. Very silly! In the pictures you can see me in front of the most famous landmark in Skopje, the stone bridge. I also visited the museum, which was really badly damaged when the earthquake in 1963 happened. This half standing building is there as a reminder of all the people that died. I also tried to make friends with a bull in the middle of Skopje but it didn't go well... After all the traveling around I got tired and decded to go and write postcards in a cafe instead. It was hard work, but I got them all written and posted without getting into trouble at all! Phew! Time to move on again now!

Treacle in Albania

Pogradec, Albania: Distance Travelled = 57,013 miles

Hello!
We travelled through the former Yugoslavian republic of Macedonia by bus and ended up in the south west of the country. Here we crossed the border into Albania and got as far as the city of Pogradec. You can see me in front of the big and beautiful Lake Ohrid. It was so windy that you can see my scarf flapping around like crazy! You can also see me in a really typical Albanian scene, lots of families have a little piece of land and on this land they put a cow. Very rural and idylic. Moving on now! Back on the train I think!

Treacle in Durres

Posted 11th December 2009 - travel companions - Dan & Lizz
Durres, Albania: Distance Travelled = 57,084 miles

Hello!
We took the train from Pogradec to Durres, which is on the coast. It was a 6 hours train journey even though it's not very far! So I sat on the train all day. The train was probably the worst train that I have ever been on! All the windows were cracked, really nasty! When I got to Durres I went to the beach, because I love beaches, but the beach was really, really horrible, it's a bit cold to swim anyway, but it was nasty! I don't think I should stay in Durres very long, definitely time to move on!

Tirana, Albania: Distance Travelled = 57,102 miles

Hello!
These are my last two updates from my wonderful Balkern adventure. I've had lots of fun out here, I've not got into too many scrapes, but that's not a bad thing! I'm in Tirana, which is the capital of Albania. I really do love travelling you know and I got a bit edgy on my last day here.

You can see me in the hotel too, I climbed up to get a good view of the city, but I fell off :( luckily though I landed nice and softly in a bush, phew! I thought that the toilets were very strange in that hotel!

Treacle Flies

Tirana, Albania: Distance Travelled = 57,110 miles

Hello!
I went to see the National Historical Museum, you can see the facade on the front called the Albanians. If you look really closely on the left hand side, the people are all looking up and shooting. What they didn't know when they made that mosaic was that they were actually looking at/aiming at a little teddy bear that was jumping up to try and get a better look! Whilst I was in a jumping mood I also visited the statue of the national hero Skanderbeg, I wondered if I could jump up next to him, but it was far too large and far too dangerous, so luckily I didn't manage it. You can also see me trying to fly in front of the clock tower Kulla e Sahatit next to the Et'hem Bey Mosque. I didn't fly very well, but luckily I had someone there to catch me. Hurrah!

Finally I decided at the airport that I'd try to jump over an aeroplane, I managed it too. Tee hee! Oh well, time to leave Albania and the Balkerns. It's been great!

Vienna, Austria: Distance Travelled = 57,598 miles

Hello!
A very brief update from my way home in Vienna. Well, nothing to say really. It was a bit of a boring change of planes. Nothing to do, everyone was very bored. There wasn't even a nice place to take a picture! So I practised my jumping!

Treacle goes to Cats

Posted 15th December 2009 - travel companions - Anders & Lizz
Stockholm, Sweden: Distance Travelled = 58, 376 miles

Hello!
Well, I'm back in Sweden now and moving onto my next adventure. I've waved good bye to my current travelling companions and said hello to my new one (hello Anders!) We went to see Cats at the "Cirkus" theatre in Stockholm. You can see me searching for my seat on the balcony and then trying to make myself comfortable on my seat. The seats in the theatre are nice and spacious, but this makes it a bit uncomfortable for a small bear like me, you can't really see anything because the seat in front is a bit tall. So I tried to tilt my chair a bit higher, but of course I fell inbetween the seat and it's back, sigh. Luckily I was rescued by a lovely person in the audience who let me sit on their knee for the rest of the performance, hurrah! Thank you!!! More soon.

Treacle in Frankfurt I

Posted 17th December 2009 - travel companions - Anders
Frankfurt, Germany: Distance Travelled = 59, 116 miles

Hello!
I've travelled down to Frankfurt for a quick visit. The first thing we had to do, of course, was find something to eat. You can see me with a huge jug of beer. (I only had a sip of the Königs Pilsener, too big for a little bear like me) I always find it hard to know how to spell, I was a bear with a beer, lol! There was so much good food, I had waffles with plum and cream. Very, very tasty! Then it was time for the christmas sweeties, I got a bit muddled up with the sweets, but luckily no-one ate me and I was safe, phew! More soon!

Treacle at the Natural Science Museum in Frankfurt

Posted 18th December 2009 - travel companions - Anders
Frankfurt, Germany: Distance Travelled = 59, 117 miles

Hello!
Today we went to the Museum of Natural Science, the Naturmusem Senckenberg. You can see me outside the museum in front of on of Frankfurt's skyscrapers. This one is called "the pencil". Also just outside the entrance of the museum there is a dinosaur, he was really very, very large. Quite scary for a little bear! You can read more about the dinosaur here. When we got inside the museum I decided to put my belongings in the wardrobe locker, but unfortunately I fell totally inside the locker and got locked in. So I had to wait for two hours for my friends to come back and rescue me! At least I got to see the dinosaur though and he was brilliant! More soon!

Treacle at Frankfurt Railway Station

Posted 19th December 2009 - travel companions - Anders
Frankfurt, Germany: Distance Travelled = 59, 118 miles

Hello!
This is my last update from Frankfurt and I'm at the railway station. You can see me with the latest ICE, which is (at present anyway) one of the fastest trains in Europe! I found a very good place to sit and watch the train and didn't really have to go past the big picture of the man saying stop, although it did take me a while to work out why I had to sit there with my arms outstretched for a while! At the railway station there is a fantastic model railway, I could have sat and watch the little trains go round for hours! It was brilliant, I also watched as other people looked at the model and how it made a boy out of everyman that sat and looked, lol it could even make a boy out of a little bear! Well, it's Christmas very soon, so I'll let you know what I get up to! In the meantime I hope everyone is well and enjoying the snow where-ever you are in Europe!

Treacle Goes to a Julbord Part I

Posted 22nd December 2009 - travel companions - Anders
Västervik, Sweden: Distance Travelled = 59, 738 miles

Hello!
I'm now back in Sweden again and starting the Christmas celebrations! My companions and I took a trip to Västervik and boarded a boat to the island of Idö. Onboard the boat M/S Tjust we were welcomed by hot, traditional Swedish glögg (mulled wine). The boat took us out from the harbour and to a restaurant on the island. It was very, very cold as you can see by the snow on the window! The hot glögg was very, very inviting! Once we got to the restaurant we had to choose drinks, I remembered the beer in Frankfurt, so I chose the smallest bottle I could possibly find. This bottle had O.P Anderson in it ... um 40% alc. snaps, spiced with caraway, aniseed and fennelseed. I decided that maybe this wasn't for me either! The food was really, really lovely, the different herrings and all the other hot food. Really nice after the cold journey by boat! It's getting so close to Christmas now, hurrah! More in a moment!

Treacle Goes to a Julbord Part II

Posted 22nd December 2009 - travel companions - Anders
Idö, Sweden: Distance Travelled = 59, 744 miles

Hello again!
It was a really fantastic julbord, which literally means Christmas Table, full of wonderful food, so much food I had to blog twice to fit it all in! With the Julbord you have to have Christmas beer, I only had a paw dip, not too much. This was the beer of year, brewed by the local brewery Åbro in Vimmerby. For dessert we had ris à la Malta, really, really tasty. Tee hee, I didn't eat all of that bowl though, that was the serving dish. In the pictures you can see the view from the window in the restaurant over the archipeligo of Västervik with the traditional advent ljustak in the window. Then finally on the way back from the island of Idö. Maybe I'll be asked back again next year, it was really, really wonderful. I'm a bit full now though!

Treacle in Västervik

Posted 25th December 2009 - travel companions - Anders
Västervik, Sweden: Distance Travelled = 59, 750 miles

Hello!
God Jul and Happy Christmas! I hope that every one is having a really great snowy christmas, (as long as you're somewhere that is supposed to be snowy, if you're in Sydney, then it probably wouldn't be a good thing for you to have snow!) You can see me in snowy Västervik! I decided to try out the lovely Christmas Tree to see if it was comfortable, it wasn't really, rather too spiky. So I thought I'd try the snow out too. That was much better, but a bit cold! You can also see me on the statue in Spötorget. Finally I looked in through lots of different windows and I found a very familiar man, he looked like he was in trouble though and didn't want to be locked in that room! I decided to leave very quickly to make sure I didn't get into trouble with him! More adventures soon!
